Dog Breeds - Border Terrier |
The Border Terrier originated from the border of England and Scotland tracing back to the 18th century. They were used to hunt vermin and to defend the farm against prey such as foxes. They make a great watchdog and have amazing stamina which allows them to keep up speeds with horses! The Border Terrier must be well socialized at a young age to prevent them from being overly shy. They are not aggressive with other dogs, and generally get along well with other breeds. They can be trained to be good with family cats, although they are not good with smaller pets or unfamiliar cats. Border Terriers are excellent escape artists who are good at digging and should be kept in a securely fenced area. This breed has an extremely high pain tolerance so any sign of illness or pain should be taken very seriously. Border Terriers are happy to please their owner and should be praised for their good behavior, rather then punished for bad behavior. Corrections should be kept short to keep their gentle and playful spirit!

Kinlay, our two year old Labradoodle, is usually very spirited. He is a boisterous and high-energy fellow, who needs lots of gentle reminders to refrain from surfing the kitchen countertop and stealing socks! One day, he didn’t seem himself. He was very quiet and wanted to go outside constantly. We could tell that this unusual behavior was a clue that something was wrong. We took Kinlay to our veterinarian and a test confirmed Kinlay had a urinary tract infection. We were given antibiotics and we dropped our claim in the mailbox that afternoon. PetCare returned our claim with a cheque within one week! When I called to thank PetCare the customer service representative was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in Kinlay’s recovery. It was such a pleasure dealing with PetCare’s courteous and professional staff! We never expected a young dog like Kinlay to fall ill, but when he did, we were glad PetCare was there!
